Deer Isle, Maine

Deer Isle is an island off the coast of Maine and is made up of two communities: Deer Isle and Stonington. The island is home to an interesting mix of opposites - the locals and the people from away - because of its three main industries: tourism, creative economy, and fishing. This is not another tourist stop in "vacationland". This is a working town. Stonington, with a year round population of only 1300 people, was the number one grossing port in the nation for lobster last year. But it’s getting harder and harder to maintain their livelihood. Fishing culture runs so deep here, if they lose that, they may lose their community.
